What We Do
Diamond Del's Gem Mining has brought the thrill of gem mining to over 1,000,000 students over the past 26 years.
Our program has become a favorite among teachers and students alike because we make learning about earth materials fun and exciting.
We focus on educating students about rock and mineral classification and identification by observing and examining their physical properties, a state standard for earth science.
How We Do It
INSTRUCTION: A 15 minute virtual presentation from Diamond Del prepares the students for their mining adventure.
ACTIVITY: Each student is given a wooden mining box containing Brazilian mining ore. The students sift the ore to uncover fantastic gem and mineral collections that are theirs to keep.
LESSON: A virtual follow up presentation by Diamond Del on the physical properties of rocks and mineral that teaches the students how to classify and identify their collections by observing the physical properties.
